Do you have a sample schedule of activities a new coach could follow?
The following is an example schedule to help you think about how you might design your own.
August

Register team(s) online and pay fees

Continue to recruit event coaches

Hold a couple of meetings each week that allows students to do construction events (Bottle Rocket, Mystery Architecture, Write It, Do It, Bridge, Tower and content or lab oriented events (Can’t Judge A Powder, Chemistry, Heredity, Water Quality, The Solar System) to familiarize student with the events.  Make sure students have copies of the rules for all events.

Coaches and students organize notebooks or create portfolios for their events, locate/purchase resource materials, establish a study/building timeline, outline course of study, build and test devices, work to have students take control of their own learning and work in teams, do practice events, attend local tournament if available, continue to recruit and fill holes on teams, design a t-shirt to wear at regional competition.  Each student should be practicing and meeting with coaches twice a week.

Many practice events and old tests can be found on the National Science Olympiad website, the North Carolina Science Olympiad Website, and other State Websites. Please DO NOT hesitate to take advantage of these recourses.

Intensely prepare for Regional Competition.  Most teams have practice everyday.
