Frequently Asked Questions
Do the events of the NC Science Olympiad align with State Standards?
The events of the North Carolina Science Olympiad (NCSO) align with the strands, goals, and objectives of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCS). All events are designed to engage students to view science as: a human endeavor; inquiry; a way of knowing about the world; tentative; engaging; a process. As a result, the North Carolina Science Olympiad events align with the Philosophy and Strands of the NCSCS. Goals and objectives related to these Strands such as "inquiry" will not be specifically stated in parentheses by the events below because it is expressly understood that all events already align with these goals (for example, Grades 6-8, Goal 1 or Grades 9-12 Content Courses, Goal 1). Content specific goal alignment will be stated in parentheses by each event below.
