CLARIFICATION:

Section 3.d. should read (see additions in bold): "Electric components shall be limited  to batteries, wires, motors, switches, resistors, capacitorscommercial photocells (i.e., cadmium sulfide (CdS) cell, photoresistors or light dependent resistors), mechanical relayslightbulbs, and LEDs.  No computers or transistors will be permitted in the device." (11/9/09- national)

Section 4.b. should read (see additions in bold): "Activate aphotocell that allows current to flow to a motor, which leads to the next action." (11/9/09- national)

Description: Teams of up to 3 will build ahead of time a Rube Goldberg type device that starts by dropping a golfball onto a mousetrap and ends by raising a flag out of the device. Additional points are earned for other tasks defined in the rules, as well as meeting other requirements. See the official rules for more requirements. THIS IS AN IMPOUND EVENT.

Materials: Teams MUST bring their device, Task Sequence List (TSL), safety spectacles with side shields, and any tools/materials needed to set up the device.

Scoring: High score wins. Points are earned for successfu tasks and penalties are taken for rule violations as defined in the official rules.

Common Mistakes:

  • The only liquid allowed is water, which means if you are attempting pneumatics then the system must be filled with water, not oil or hydraulic fluid, etc.
