2009 NCSO State Tournament - North Carolina State University - April 24-25, 2009
April 30. 2009
The 2009 NC Science Olympiad State Tournament Scores are now FINAL. A detailed auditing was done of all events and the following errors were found and corrected:
Meteorology, B Division - East Burke's actual ranking was ommitted. This caused all teams below East Burke on the Master Score Sheet to receive an incorrect ranking.
Dynamic Planet, B Division - Table Rock finished 22nd in this event. The scorer inputted a rank of "2" instead of "22".
Experimental Design, C Division - Jacksonville High Scool finished 34th not 37th.
Wright Stuff, B Division - Davidson IB finished 36th, not 35th.
As stated above, these errors were corrected and the scores are now final. Detailed scores are below:
There was an error found in B Division Scores for the Event Meteorology. East Burke's actual ranking was accidentally skipped which resulted in all teams from East Burke and below to receive the wrong ranking. This did not change the ranking in the top 6 teams. The medals for the Meteorology event were awarded correctly at the Awards Ceremony. Revised results below:
Congratulations to all teams on a great tournament. In an effort to get scores out as quickly as possible I've done no editing to make them most presentable. The First Place Overall Winners complicate things a bit because they are taken out when teams scores are added together. Keep that in mind when looking at the tournament totals because FPOWs are taken out when adding ranks which could actually improve or hurt your final rank in a particular event depending on how the FPOW teams did in particular events.. If you have questions or have appeals, please e-mail Jason Painter at jlpainter@gmail.com. Take care and good night. Jason PS. ANY QUESTIONS OR APPEALS WILL NOT BE LOOKED AT UNTIL MONDAY. PLEASE DO NOT EXPECT ANY RESPONSE UNTIL THEN.
We were just notified that ice cream will not be served tomorrow 4:30 - 6:30 pm outside of Reynolds. We apologize for this cancellation.

A few reminders:
For the third year in a row we will be honoring two teams (one B Division and one C Division) with the Julian Brown Spirit Award. Each event leader will nominate a school from their event that they believe exhibits the "spirit" of Julian Brown and the North Carolina Science Olympiad. We, the tournament leaders, will also be paying close attention to the attitudes, behavior, excitement, t-shirts, face paint, and "put others first" mentality in all teams during events and during opening and closing ceremonies. PLEASE make sure your students and guests display GREAT sportsmanship at all times! Encourage them to really show their spirit during both Ceremonies.
It is incredibly important that we respect the classrooms, buildings, and gymnasiums we use at N.C. State University. We had some very unfortunate behavior a couple of years ago that reflected extremely poorly on the NC Science Olympiad and all participating schools. Please make sure all trash is deposited in a trash can or a trash bag. DO NOT allow students to run halls wildly or to be unsupervised. Other classes, meetings, and university activities go on at the same time that our events take place so we MUST respect their rights to quiet and order. Any student or visitor from any team found not respecting the University and all personnel associated with the tournament will be for immediate disqualification of the entire team from the State Competition. The coach, team members, and school principal must complete and bring the Vandalism and Behavior Policy to registration with you on Friday, April 24th. Please make sure that all your team members, family members, chaperones, guests, coaches, etc. have read the Vandalism and Behavior Policy.
Each student participating in the State Tournament must have a completed Photo Consent form. Please send this home with every student and have them and their parents sign the form. We would like to use pictures that we take during this event for promotional purposes. This must also be brought to registration. Any student without the form or whose parents do not consent will wear a bright pink wrist band to alert us not to take his/her picture.
