Event Rules: Data Detective

Description: This event is a station event.. Teams may be at desks, tables, or spread out across a gym floor depending on the space required for their task(s). Teams will be presented with data, existing graphs, or materials that they will be asked to analyze, interpret, and otherwise answer questions about.

Materials: Teams MUST bring a writing instrument. Teams may also bring non-programmable calculators.

Event Leaders will provide any graphs, data, graph paper, or other materials necessary to complete each station, the official test and response sheet.

Scoring: High score wins. Points are earned for the quality and accuracy of responses. Predetermined questions/stations will be used to break ties.

  • Make sure you can identify the 4 kinds of graphs listed in the rules (9.a)
  • The topics that event leaders will ask questions about are clearly outlined in the rules. (9.a-g) A basic understanding of all topics will be needed. Make a notebook to study from, and have a page for each topic with examples.
