Egg Drop

Event Rules: Egg Drop
Description: Teams will build on site and test a protective device designed to keep a raw, Grade A large chicken egg from breaking when dropped from increasing heights.

Materials: Teams may bring a plumb line.

Event Leaders will provide identical sets of materials for each team to build from (popsicle sticks, straws, paper, rubber bands, string, tape, styrofoam peanuts, cotton balls, etc. This is not an inclusive list. The materials could be completely different), eggs, a target, and the official scoresheet.

Scoring: Devices will be scored based on the following tiers, with tier 1 being the best. Devices will be ranked within each tier based on closeness to the target.

  • Tier 1: Eggs that survived both heights
  • Tier 2: Eggs that survived the first height but not at the second height
  • Tier 3: Eggs that did not survive at the first height.
