TITLE2

Division A
The North Carolina Science Olympiad (NCSO) is growing in Division A tournaments (Grades 3-6)! For the 2010 - 2011 school year, tournaments are being offered in various areas of the State. These locations and dates are posted below. If a tournament is near you then start a team and participate in a local tournament.

The NCSO is also seeking more elementary tournament sites. Because Elementary Science Olympiad is new, many areas of the State do not have local Elementary Science Olympiad Tournaments. Also, some local tournaments in your area may have a restriction on participation and/or have too many teams already registered. Local Education Agencies, private, public, and home schools, non-profits, home, and other groups interested in starting an elementary science olympiad tournament should contact Jason Painter, jlpainter@gmail.com.

The Events of the North Carolina Elementary Division were developed by North Carolina Master Elementary Teachers and meet the interests of students as well as align with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and what teachers are already doing in the classroom. Further, these events are well balanced between the various science disciplines and between events requiring knowledge of science facts, concepts, processes, skills and applications. Olympic-style medals are awarded to top placing individuals in each event. In addition, team trophies will be awarded to top placing teams based on a total compilation of event rankings during Elementary Science Olympiad tournaments.
