Description: Competitors will have 4 minutes to act out and guess up to 40 scientific terms. See the official rules for a complete list of words.
Materials: Teams must be in groups of 2 or 3 in order to compete in this event. Teams may not bring anything with them to the competition. Event Leaders will provide stopwatches, 40 words printed on index cards, and score sheets.
In Science Charades, students take turns ACTING out the clues to the term rather than drawing. This video is provided as an example to show how team members will be shown a card with a term, cannot speak, and alternate turns guessing in the allowable time limit. The difference is that in charades, the drawer becomes the actor. Team members will not be allowed to draw during the actual event.
In an older event called Science Sketchers, teams are shown a word, and must draw pictures to try and get their teammates to guess the words. This is very similar to the game Pictionary. The students in this video are competing in the high school version of the event.
