NC Science Olympiad
Team Size and Composition
For Division A, up to 15 students can compete on either the Varsity or Junior Varsity teams. A team is NOT REQUIRED to have 15 students, this is the maximum. For a Division A team there is a limit of 5 sixth graders on a team. For a Division B team, there is a limit of 5 ninth graders on a team. Technically, sixth-grade student can still compete on the elementary school team they attended after they moved to their middle school. While this is allowed, it is encouraged for sixth graders to compete in the school they are attending. If the school the students are attending does not have an Olympiad team we encourage them to start one!

For Divisions B and C (in North Carolina ONLY), up to 18 students from a school can compete on either the Varsity or Junior Varsity teams. A team is NOT REQUIRED to have 18 students, this is the maximum.For a Division C team, there is a limit of 10 seniors on a team. Technically, ninth grade students can still compete on the team for the middle school they attended after they have moved to their high school. While this is allowed, it is encouraged for ninth graders to compete in the school they are attending. If the school the students are attending does not have an Olympiad team we encourage them to start one!

NOTE (for Division B and C teams): For the schools that qualify for the national tournament, they MUST reduce the number of students on the Varsity team to 15 as required by national rules. For high school teams, only 7 seniors are allowed to participate at the national level.

Membership is open to all schools without regard to race, religion, sex, or ethnic origin.
