We are looking forward to a great competition. See you on February 18!
1. Event locations
Campus maps are available at http://www.uncg.edu/online_map/ or http://parking.uncg.edu/2010parkingmap.pdf. Please print, mark and distribute maps to your participants as needed. Sullivan Science Bldg is #178, Health and Human Performance (HHP now HHS) is #98, Petty is #29, and Nursing (Moore) is #56
Please read the schedule carefully as some event locations have changed! The majority of the events will be held in the Sullivan Science Building. Other events will be held in Petty Science Building, the Eberhart Building, the Health and Human Performance Building (HHP 141). Helicopter Duration will be held in a racquetball court in the Student Recreation Center. This facility belongs to the students of UNCG and all faculty, events volunteers and participants will be their guests. Please announce yourself at the front desk and follow all directions. It is important that everyone participating in Science Olympiad conduct themselves in the most unobtrusive way while using this facility. Observers will be admitted as space allows at the discretion of the event leaders. Bottle Rocket will be held beside the McIver Parking Deck.
Registration will be held in Sullivan Science 301 instead of on the second floor. Coaches only please. Teams arriving after registration has closed should report to the help desk in the 1st Floor lobby of Sullivan Science.
This year the awards ceremonies for Division C Varsity and Junior Varsity will be held separately. The awards ceremonies will be held in 101 Sullivan Science (Varsity Division C) and 201 Sullivan Science (Junior Varsity Division C) and Eberhart 250 (Division B). (Scores will not be official until 5:00 pm on Wednesday, February 24. All awards presented and invitations tendered are subject to recall.)
2. Unloading students and supplies
There is a small parking lot near the main entrance of the Science Bldg. on the north side of the building by Carr St. This can be reached by turning onto Carr St from Tate St. You can park briefly in this lot to drop off people and materials. After unloading, please park in one of the lots suggested below.
3. Parking
The closest area for parking buses is 1100 West Market Street. Bus parking is also available in the Oakland/Tate Parking Lot. This lot is located behind the Cone Art Building on the corner of Oakland Av. and Tate St. However, DO NOT PARK in the spaces directly behind the Cone Building that have specific signs for Weatherspoon parking only. To reach the Science Building from the parking lot, walk down Tate St. to Walker Av., turn left on Walker and then turn right at the plaza and walk to the very end of the plaza. Free parking will be available for cars in the McIver Street Parking Deck, located diagonally across from the Science Building. (There are height restrictions for this parking deck and you should not try to park a minibus in this lot.) On entering, if the gate is not up, or does not rise when you pull up, follow the instructions to pull a ticket. When you exit, if the gate is not up, pull up and it should rise. If it doesn’t rise, push the intercom button and let parking services know you are with Science Olympiad and they will raise the gate.
4. Team grouping areas (see the separate list)
We will assign your team a grouping area. These areas will be posted on the website approximately one week before the tournament. A few of the larger lecture halls will have multiple teams so please plan accordingly upon arrival.
5. Impoundment
Impound will take place at the event site 30 minutes prior to the start of the event. Anyone may take the apparatus to be impounded. All impounds will be to an event leader, not a location! Please remind your students to pick up their materials from impound at the end of the event unless there is a challenge; in that event the materials are to be left with the event leader. Items left behind will be stored for 10 days and then discarded. (Lost and Found will be located at the Information Table in the first floor lobby of the Science Building.)
6. Room dimensions & floor surfaces
Dimensions of the competition areas in 141 HHP Building:
Approximately 50 feet wide x 90 feet long x 37feet high

9. Students with Special Needs
Please alert the Directors regarding any accommodations required for students with special needs.
10. In Case of Emergency
In the event of a medical or other emergency, call 334-4444 to contact Campus Security. They are trained First Responders and will contact paramedics, fire, police, etc. as appropriate and will ensure that they do not get lost upon arriving on campus.
11. Conduct
The various events are being held in active teaching labs and it is likely that some of these labs will have materials placed to the side on benches for Monday classes. Please instruct your team members that equipment and supplies in these rooms not specifically related to the event should not be touched or tampered with. Also, students should not wander into other labs or buildings not being used for the event. It is expected that everyone involved in Science Olympiad will conduct themselves in a manner that conveys respect for the University facilities and for all other participants and volunteers. We are very appreciative of the excellent behavior of our competitors in past and are confident that we will have a great tournament this year!
