2013 Greenville Regional Tournament Final Results

Hello everyone,

Final results from the tournament are posted below.

Due to a computer error, the results for JH Rose High School, Currituck County High School, and JP Knapp Early College High School were announced incorrectly at the awards ceremony. This will affect the medals and trophies that were given in both Varsity and JV for many of the events.  The correct rankings are posted below.  If the medal you received on Saturday is not what is showing now, please be patient with us and we will sort out who should receive which medals after the results are finalized on Wednesday. We would like to sincerely apologize to these three schools for this error.

There are no changes to Division C results.

There are a few changes to rankings for Division B events:

Division B Mousetrap Vehicle: Northeast Elementary Varsity was ranked as a NS.  The vehicle was present.  This team placed 13th.

Division B Boomilever: Columbia Middle School Varsity was scored incorrectly.  This error was fixed and this team placed 3rd as a result.  Also, Moyock Middle School JV1 was ranked incorrectly.  Scoring for this event has been revised.

Division B Food Science: Camden Middle School Varsity and JV1 rankings were switched.  The Varsity team ranked 2nd, and the JV1 team was a NS.

These changes resulted in change to overall team scores and trophy rankings:

1st: Northeast Elementary JV1

3rd: Moyock Middle JV1

1st: Northeast Elementary Varsity

2nd: Camden Middle Varsity

3rd: CM Eppes Middle Varsity

Trophy/bid winners will be notified for both divisions.

Event Resource updates and clarifications

Hello Coaches,

I hope this email finds you well.  I apologize for the condition our website's event resources have been in, I have been on leave recovering from a neck injury for the past 3 1/2 months and was not able to update and add resources like I usually do. As a result several pages were posted with incorrect or outdated information on them, mostly remnants from last years rules.  I came back to work last week and went through the Middle and High event pages, and need to call several major changes to your attention that may affect how your team prepares for the tournament. The good news is that I was also able to upload new pictures, video, presentations, or tests for almost all of the events, so have your students recheck all their event pages for those.

DIVISION B:
Food Science- The clarification that was previously listed was left over from last year. It has been incorporated into the regular rules this year. However, there is a new clarification regarding the fluids to use on your standard curve.  Also be aware that teams must turn in a copy of their standard curve at the event, which will not be returned, so please make extra copies before you come.

Heredity- The clarification that was listed was not actually a clarification.  It was simply an update to what was listed in the materials section on the website.  The clarification notification has been removed.

Metric Mastery- 3 new clarifications have been added. The first is regarding the format of the event- you can expect unique stations at most regions rather than rotating through the same set twice. The second states teams should bring nothing to the event, not even a calculator.  The third regards handling of measuring apparatus.

Mission Possible B- The tasks listed in the event description were the ones from last year. This and a few other details have been updated to reflect this year's rules.

Mousetrap Vehicle - Almost all of the information on this page was incorrect, unfortunately none of it was updated from last years rules before it was posted.  The description, including the allowed use of up to 2 mousetraps has been updated, along with track dimensions, intervals, and other event parameters. Scoring also underwent major changes. The scoresheet in the link needs to be updated still, it does not take into account the clarifications on the event.  I hope to get to that this week.  Please have your students competing in this event double check the official rules and the clarifications and make sure they know what to expect.

Reach for the Stars- Last year's topic was still listed in the event description. This has been updated.

DIVISION C:
Anatomy and Physiology - The clarification that has been on the national website will be observed in NC. It is now on our website as well.

Designer Genes- The clarification that was listed was not actually a clarification.  It was simply an update to what was listed in the materials section on the website.  The clarification notification has been removed.

Gravity Vehicle-  Almost all of the information on this page was incorrect, unfortunately none of it was updated from last years rules before it was posted. 4 existing clarifications are still posted, and 1 new one has been added regarding how the dimensions and height of the device and vehicle will be measured.  Most of the event parameters had to be updated. Scoring also underwent major changes.  Please have your students competing in this event double check the official rules and the clarifications and make sure they know what to expect.

Materials Science- I do not know how long this page was linking to Invasives, but it has been corrected.  All the information on the Materials Science page has also been updated to reflect this year's national rules, instead of last year's trial rules. Have your students double check this one as well, since it underwent major changes.

Mission Possible C- The tasks listed in the event description were the ones from last year. This and a few other details have been updated to reflect this year's rules.

Again I apologize for the confusion.  I wish all of your teams the best of luck when tournaments start in a few weeks!
