Good morning everyone!
I hope that you all had a great day yesterday! I have published the scores in Avogadro, so head coaches can log in and see raw score data. For everyone else, here are the links to the spreadsheets for ranks in every event.
Division B
Separate scores – this is what medals and trophies are awarded from.
Combined Scores – this ranks all varsity and JV teams together. This is the list that we will choose the FPOW candidates from. If you are not familiar with our FPOW program, please see the policy here.
Division C
Separate scores – this is what medals and trophies are awarded from. There was a tie for 1st place, it is broken by the team with more 1st place medals.
Combined Scores – this ranks all varsity and JV teams together. This is the list that we will choose the FPOW candidates from. If you are not familiar with our FPOW program, please see the policy here.
Remember that scores are not final until 5pm on Wednesday. If you see a problem, head coaches should email Kim and we will get it sorted out.
Hi folks! We look forward to seeing you bright and early Saturday morning! Here are a few last comments on events for the tournament. Your final Avogadro schedules to print will be available by the end of the day today. If you still need to schedule in the walk-in events, please email Amy (amlamb@ncsu.edu) and she can enter them for you.
Div B
General Comments – smart watches of any kind can not be worn during the event. Once something is impounded, you can’t touch it until it is time to compete. Non-competitors cannot touch it at all!
Crimebusters – please have students bring a wash bottle of distilled water.
Hovercraft – remember that students can take the test even if they don’t have a device. Lots of kids without graphs or protected propellors – graph points are easy points and the hovercrafts are not allowed to run for safety issues if the propellors aren’t covered.
Optics – students can leave measuring tools in the laser maze during testing as long as the mirrors are not being propped up in some way on them.
Roller Coaster – The start line and finish line cannot be adjusted in these devices. Something else must be adjusted to make the ‘vehicle’ go faster or slower. Remember that the track cannot be enclosed at any point – we have to be able to see the ball at all times. If the ‘vehicle’ doesn’t make it through the device on either run, students receive participation points only in this event.
Thermodynamics – Lots of kids without what they needed at other tournaments for this event. Remember that they need 2 identical beakers turned in at impound with their device and graphs. Students can take the test event if they don’t have a device.
Towers – The rules seem to be confusing lots of folks this year. Every piece of the tower 25cm above the ground and higher must be able to fit through an 8cm ring. The bottom must span a 20cm opening. This means a skinny top and a wider bottom to be in Tier 1.

Amazing Mechatronics – We are running the programming piece using the virtual software Tinkercircuits. It works just like a physical Aurduino, but be sure students have played around with it a bit so that they are familiar with the setup.
Forensics- please have students bring a wash bottle of distilled water.
Hovercraft – remember that students can take the test even if they don’t have a device. Lots of kids without graphs or protected propellors – graph points are easy points and the hovercrafts are not allowed to run for safety issues if the propellors aren’t covered.
Mission Possible – Water to complete a circuit: cannot pour salt water in to a container, it must be plain water. Some people are being penalized for having an iphone in their Mission. The phone itself may be used IF the battery is removable AND it is not a lithium battery. Most don’t meet these criteria, so be careful on this one. The scoresheet for this has been updated on the event resource page.
Optics – students can leave measuring tools in the laser maze during testing as long as the mirrors are not being propped up in some way on them.

Please let me know if you have any questions, good luck!
All Durham coaches have now been sent a google form permission/photo consent information in it. Every student on the team must have this form on file to compete!
